The Christmas Markets are annual tradition which takes place in many places around Prague. The opening is on 28th November and they are closing on 3rd of January. The opening ceremony used to be typical typical by lighting the Christmas tree on the Old Town Square, but it’s not known when the tree will be lightened this year, because of the current situation in Europe.

On the Old Town Square there are the biggest ones, but you can find other on Vaclavske Square, Namesti Miru or Namesti Republiky etc.

The traditional markets look like a small village with its typical houses. All in typical Christmas decoration. The shops opens from 9 AM to 10 PM. Some of the shops, mainly with food, are opened until midnight. If you are planning to visit these markets, you definitely should try some typical Czech meals, such as Old Bohemian “Trdlo”, sausages, roasted chestnuts and mulled wine. (The wine is served in mugs, which you can keep as a souvenir.

The Christmas markets aren’t just about shops. There are also stages with accompanying program – carolling, theatres and another entertaining performances. You can find there animals, mainly ponies and lamas, which you can feed or the choldren can ride on them.

I love these markets because its atmosphere and I really recommend you to experience some of the time in Prague on them. You’ll not regret.
